Insensitive society

2015-03-12
THIS refers to the horse and cattle show held recently in Lahore. Its tattoo show was disappointing on so many levels.

First, the show started off with a re-enactment of the Peshawar attack, featuring approximately 400 students from Peshawar, some of whom were siblings of the martyred children from the Army Public School.

It started off with a little girl`s monologue asking her father `how much does a bullet make you bleed` etc. Then, suddenly, the scene changed and Taliban-looking taller children started shooting at the other children.

What followed next was chaos children falling to the ground, some as if dead, others injured, getting carried away by medics, etc. Then the song, `bara dushman,` was played in the background with a child lip-syncing as he walked around the bodies of children.

Just when we thought the madness had finally ended, entered more terrorists who fired multiple shots at the last child standing. I couldn`t take it anymore.

Then, of course, the army came in and what followed next was a war sequence between the army and the terrorists.

My seven-year-old smiled nervously and said: `Ammi, I am feeling a little scared! We then saw children walk towards the school, some with head bandages, others limping, and some who had survived unhurt.

And, finally, it ended, leaving us shocked, disturbed and angry at whoever thought this was a fantastic way to commence a `peace show` for the viewing pleasure of families with children.
