Schools reopen after extended summer vacation

By Our Staff Reporter 2015-08-12
KARACHI: It was back to routine as both government and private schools in Sindh reopened on Tuesday after an extended holiday of two months and 10 days.

According to the decision of the Steering Committee, the schools were initially set to open on Aug 3 but the government decided to keep them closed until Aug 11 in view of the heavy rains and floods in Sindh despite Karachi not being af fected.

This raised an issue with several private school managements of the city who wanted their schools to reopen on time as additional holidays made completion of courses a challenge.Besides they pointed out that they needed that week when schools would be closed for preparing the students for Independence Day programmes.

Most private schools, at one point, had decided to go against the government decision and were opening on Aug 3.

The government, too, had warned them of dire consequences if that happened, threatening with heavy fines, revoking school licences and even arresting principals and owners.

Then several among them became divided on the issue adding tofurther confusion.

Finally, all decided to go with the government`s decision and open together on Aug 11.
