Fapuasa supports KU teachers

KARACHI: The Federation of All Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Association(Fapuasa), Sindh chapter, extended its support to the Karachi University Teachers Society on Thursday and warned that all public sector universities in the province would be closed for a day if their demands were not accepted by Aug 30.

The demands, which included removing the finance director, were presented in a general body meeting which was attended by representatives of six public sector universities, apart from teachers of KU.

The house, according to sources, demanded that the provincial government start issuing annual grants to the universitiesin Sindh, release the held-up grant of KU, and announce a onetime bailout package for it.

Teachers urged the KU vice chancellorto disregard any pressure and pay the annual leave encashment to teachers in accordance with the statutory law of the university as was being done in other universities.

`They also called upon the Higher Education Commission to increase the annual grant of KU with respect to its size and restore the quarterly grant system to ensure the smooth running of the university, says a press release.
