Bajwa briefs Australian leaders about Pakistan peace efforts

RAWALPINDI: Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa on Monday arrived in Canberra, the capital of Australia, on a two-day of ficial visit.

Upon arrival at the Defence Forces Headquarters in the Australian capital, the COAS was given a tri-service Guard of Honour.

Gen Bajwa called on Australian Army Chief Lieutenant General Angus J. Campbell and Naval ChiefVice Admiral Timothy Barrett, according to an Inter-Services Public Relations statement.

Later, the COAS met Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop and Defence Minister Marise Payne at Australian Parliament House.

During these meetings with Australian military and civilian leadership, the COAS highlighted regional security situation and Pakistan Army`s contribution.

The COAS said that whilePakistan would continue to support all peace efforts, `we expect our security concerns are also addressed`.

Gen Bajwa said that Pakistan had improved security situation and had a key role in regional economy. The Australian leadership appreciated Pakistan`s efforts against terrorism and expressed commitment to further improve bilateral collaboration in defence and security.
