RPO expresses displeasure over police failure to trace robbers

RAWALPINDI: The regional police officer (RPO) has expressed displeasure over the police failure to trace culprits in a robbery case.

The official served `letters of displeasure` on the city police officer (CPO), the superintendent of police (SP) Potohar division besides seeking an explanation from the DSP Cantonment and serving a showcaused notice on the station house officer of R.A. Bazaar.

Wasim Aslam, a businessman, was robbed of Rs4 million by two motorcycle riders at T&T Chowk on August 31.

`As I stopped at the traffic signal, two boys riding a motorcycle appeared on my right side, threatened to kill me and snatched the cash,` Ms Aslam said.

He said he was disappointed after failing to get a response from the emergency police 15 despite making repeated calls and then went to the Cantt police station to lodge an FIR.

`Since the incident, I have been trying to get the attention of the policewho first said there were Eid holidays and then claimed that they were engaged in security duty for the Defence Day.

But, Mr Aslam added: `Yes, the police seemed serious today and were working on my case.

He expressed the hope that the culprits would be arrested with the help of the CCTV footages installed on The Mall.

RPO Mohammad Wisal Fakhar Sultan Raja on Monday held a meeting with his of ficers and sought a report on the progress in the case.

The RPO issued `letters of displeasure` to CPO Israr Abbasi, SP Potohar Syed Ali and sought an explanation from DSP Cantt Raja Taifoor Alchtar in addition to severing a show-cause notice on SHO R.A. Bazaar Tariq Masood.

The RPO gave one week`s deadline to the SHO to trace the culprits and recover the looted amount.

The RPO also suspended and transferred Yasir Mehmood Kiani, the SHO of Sadigabad, for his negligence in investigating a murder/attempted murder case.
