Action demanded against cops for torturing teacher

TIMERGARA: Teachers organisations on Sunday demanded of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa IGP to immediately transfer all the staff of the Mayar Jandol police station for allegedly booking a senior schoolteacher in a fake drugs case and torturing him.

The demand was made at a meeting of the All Teachers Coordination Council, Lower Dir chapter, chaired by council`s provincial president Syed Mohammad Shah.

The meeting was informed that plainclothes police officials arrested a senior schoolteacher of GHSS Mayar, Toti Rehman, registered a fake case against him and tortured him. They said SHO Barakat Khan was also involved in the incident.

The meeting announced launching an agitation campaign against the errant police officials. It was decided that schoolteachers in Samar Bagh subdivision would wear black armbands from Monday while a protest rally would be staged outside the Timergara Press Club on Friday.

The participants said from Friday a class boycott would be observed in all the schools in the district.

Meanwhile, the Schools Officers Association (SOA), a representative body of principals and headmasters of public sector schools in Lower Dir, condemned the alleged violence of Mayar police on the teacher, warning if the errant cops were not punished a series of protests would be staged against police.

When contacted, DPO Qasim Ali Khan told Dawn three police officials including the SHO had been sent to the police lines. He said an inquiry committee headed by DSP Naeem Khan had also been constituted which would submit its report within a week.

PRISONER COMMITS SUICIDE: An under-trial prisoner in the district jail Timergara committed suicide by hanging himself from a window inside his cell the other day.

According to jail officials, Izharuddin was arrested on the charge of stabbing to death a police constable at Bishgram in Swat district a few months ago.

Later, the body was handed over to heirs.

WOMAN KILLED: A woman was shot dead by his son over a domestic issue at Naway Kalay area in the limits of Samar Bagh police station on Saturday night. The police said Bakhtawar Khan shot dead his aged mother over a petty issue andned the scene.
