Lack of women doctors at health centres regretted

K ARAK: The rights organisation has complained about lack of women doctors at health centres in Karak district.

Noor Wali Khan, Ahmad Jan and other members of the Khattak Ittehad told reporters here on Tuesday that local women were stressed out due to the shortage of women doctors at health centres in the district.

They said there were few women doctors for more than 800,000 population in the district, which was a violation of the basic rights of local residents.

The rights activists said local culture didn`t allow women to visit male doctors for treatment and therefore, they(women) faced serious health issues.

They said ironically, most hospitals in the district also faced acute shortage of women doctors forcing local women to go to other districts for checkup and treatment.

The rights activists demanded the early appointment of women doctors to all health centres in the district in adequate numbers to the relief of local women.

WAT ER SCHEMES: The residents of Takki Mithakhel and adjacent localities have demanded that the district government operationalise the two drinking water facilities in the region to end acute water shortage.

Islahi Jirga president Sardar Khan told a meeting attended by local resi-dents here that two drinking water schemes were successfully executed in the region at a cost of Rs15 million during the last government, while work on water tanks and their brick-lining was also completed four years ago.

He said unfortunately, the incumbent authorities were not interested in making those water projects functional to the misery of local residents.

Sardar Khan said local women had to cover long distances to fetch water for domestic use.

He said installation of water pumps and electrification was required to operationalise those water schemes.

Sardar Khan demanded that the district government approve the required funds for purpose without delay.
