People stranded in Kaghan await reopening of road

MANSEHRA: Scores of people are still stranded in Kaghan valley as BalakotNaran section of MansehraNaran-Jalkhad Road, which was blocked earlier this week due to landslide, could not be reopened to traffic, according to sources.

Many others links roads were blocked to all sorts of traffic last Sunday when the valley received heavy snowfall. A man was also killed in a rain related incident in Kaghan on Tuesday.

Scores of people, according official sources, were stranded owing to blockade of the road and harsh weather in the valley.

They said that the teams of National Highway Authority, deployed in Kaghan to reopen such roads after clearance of weather, were yet to fulfil their task.

The upper part of Hazara received widespread rain and snowfall during the last four days that disturbed communication system in far-off areas.

CHILDREN DIE: Two children have fallen prey to measles and several others are suffering from the disease in Kiarbai village in Oghi, according to officials.

They said that teams of health departments reached the village after two children died of measles. `Yes, two children having symptoms of measles have fallen prey to the disease in a village of Oghi and health teams have reached there to vaccinate children,` Tariq Hussain, thedistrict superintendent of vaccination progamme, told journalists on Wednesday.

He said that the children, who died of measles, were identified as Niaz Mohammad, 8, and Bukhat Sana Bibi, 11.

Mr Hussain said that three teams, led by Dr Mumtaz Ahmad and Dr Babar Sohail, were busy in vaccinating children there. He said that so far 162 children were vaccinated in the affected village.

Mr Hussain said that blood samples of 10 children were also dispatched to National Institute of Health for confirmation of the disease. He said that besides Kiarbai, situation in the nearby villages was also being observed.

NOTICES: The district administration has served notices on 361 persons to remove their illegal structures, built along Karakoram Highway, within seven days otherwise their buildings would be demolished during the anti-encroachment drive.

Ziauddin, the infrastructure officer of district council, told journalists on Wednesday said that so far 361 notices were served to encroachers on the directives of deputy commissioner.

He said that district administration wanted to retrieve government land from the illegal occupants. He said that Siantha Katha to Chaterplan section of the highway would be cleared in the first phase of anti-encroachment drive.

Meanwhile, municipal committee has asked the owners of the buildings, which have been constructed without approval, to get no objection certificates otherwise such structures will be demolished.
