Protest threatened against `misuse` of oil, gas royalty

KARAK: The local rights organisations and political groups have threatened to launch a protest movement against what they call misuse of oil and gas royalty.

In this connection, a meeting of six organisations including Orbal Tehreek, Mazdoor Kisan Party, Workers Welfare, Nara-i-Haq Movement, Save City Movement and Karak Qaumi Tehreek was held here on Wednesday.

The meeting, presided over by Dr Rostan Shah, was attended by Advocate Qadir Shireen, Tariq Usman, Mohammad Usman, Shad Mohammad, Abdul Aziz, Mohammad Rauf, Imtiaz Arshi and other representatives of the six organisations.

The participants of the meeting alleged that the amount of royalty was not being utilised for the welfare of common man in real sense.

They said that that the funds should be utilised for the welfare of people.

They also demanded that amount should be distributed among the households of the district.

They alleged that public representatives were misusing the oil and gas royalty as they couldn`t get development funds from the government. They threatened to launch a protest movement against misuse of the royalty.The participants of the meeting said that unjust distribution of the royalty funds caused unrest among people.

They resolved to create awareness among people regarding their rights to force the government and public representatives to distribute the royalty among the families of the district.

SALARIES: The local government employees have threatened to launch a province-wide protest against non-payment of their salaries and pensions.

Addressing a workshop here on Wednesday, Pakistan Workers Federation central coordinator Shaukat Ali Anjum and provincial joint secretary Azam Khan said that the employees of district Bannu, Tank, Lakki Marwat and Dera Ismail Khan were deprived of their salaries and pensions for the last three months.

They said that the employees of local government were facing hardships owing to non-payment of salaries and pensions. They demanded of the government to provide special grants to tehsil municipal administration so that it could pay salaries to employees. They threatened to launch a protest if government failed to provide special grants to TMAs.

They said that they field candidates in the upcoming local government elections to raise vice for the rights of workers.
