KMC schemes to be included in next Sindh ADP discussed

KARACHI: Mayor of Karachi Wasim Akhtar chaired a meeting on Wednesday in his office in which several city schemes which would be include d in the provincial Annual Development Programme (ADP) for the next fiscal year were discussed, officials said.

They said certain priority schemes for six districts of Karachi came under discussion in which their modalities were specified and details were considered.

Mr Akhtar expressed his desire that maximum uplift works should be carried out in every district of Karachi.

He urged the district administrations to make sure that a better and comprehensive priority list for the next ADP was approved for the city.

He said any priority work other than the list compiled could also be added in the final priority list.

He said chairmen of the district municipal corporations and other elected city leaders must focus on the actual need of the people of the respective district.

The officials said the schemes to be included in the provincial ADP (201718) included the works of construction and uplift of roads, storm-water drains and installation and repairs of streetlights, replacement of water and sewerage mains, repairs and maintenance of bridges and underpasses and other such works.

Besides, provincial ADP schemes for KMC departments also came under discussion which included provision of streetlight lifter, major electrification works at the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and other KMC healthcare facilities, provision of generators, establishment of mobile food testing laboratory, provision of CT scan machine, construction of model graveyard in Surjani Town and extension of KMC graveyards, upgrading of KMC machinery pool depot, laying of AstroTurf in the hockey stadium of KMC Sports Complex, construction of KMC Engineering Complex, enhancement of KMC fire brigade, construction of KMC council hall and secretariat, and construction of boundary wall and jogging track around Hill Park.

The mayor urged the departmental heads to ensure that the directives were followed on an immediate basis.

He said all such works must be carried out on a priority basis, which would benefit citizens whom the elected members represented in municipal bodies.-Staff Reporter
