ISLAMABAD: The Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) has decided to set up five new model schools in G-13 and G-14 to cope with growing number of students seeking admissions in model colleges’ setup.

Initially the schools will offer admissions from class I to X.

The land was originally acquired for establishing five federal government (FG) schools in the sectors. Now the FDE has decided to set up model schools there.

There are 402 FG schools and colleges and 20 Model Colleges in Islamabad. Though in 2011, then government renamed all 402 FG institutions as model schools, still separate directorates are running the affairs of the two setups.

A senior official of the FDE told Dawn that in the first phase, schools will be set up but later on they would be upgraded to college level.

“New schools will ease pressure on model colleges where thousands of students seek admissions every year,” said a senior officer of FDE.

When asked which directorate, FG schools or model colleges, will run these institutions, the officer said that it had not been decided as yet. Despite repeated attempts, director general FDE could not be approached.
