By Our Staff Reporter 2015-05-13
LAHORE: Punjab University Vice Chancellor Mujahid Kamran says the Muslims have made almost no contribution to the creation of scientific knowledge during the past few centuries which is the major reason for their weakness against the onslaught of knowle dgeable nations.

He was speaking at the first convocation of the Punjab University`s Centre for High Energy Physics (CHEP) held at the Law College Auditorium on Tuesday.

Mr Kamran said the US`s total GDP was around $16 to 17 trillion and it was spending around $800 billion on education and around $320billion on research and development.

`Pakistan`s GDP is around $200 to 225 billion and we are spending less than 2pc on education and 0.1pc on research and development.

The real difference between the advanced and backward nations is the mastery of knowledge of the former.

Knowledge is the source of power, wealth and respect of nations,` he said.

Ninety eight degrees were distributed among MPhil, BS Hons and Master`s graduates.

CHEP Director Dr Bilal Masud, Prof Emeritus Dr Muhammad Saleem, Convocation Committee chairman Dr Munawar Iqbal, faculty members, students and their parents were present.
