Govt asked to make public details about CPEC

Bureau Report 2016-05-13
PESHAWAR: Speakers at a seminar here on Thursday said people of all provinces should be equally benefited from China-Pakistan Economic Corridor project.

The seminar was jointly organised by Pakhtunkhwa Olasi Tehreek, Awami Workers Party and Tehreek Sooba Hazara at Peshawar Press Club. A large number of political workers, members of civil society organisations attended the seminar.

Key speakers at the seminar were Dr Said Alam Mehsud of Pakhtunkhwa Olasi Tehreek, Awami Workers Party chairman Fanoos Gujar and Tehreek Sooba Hazara general secretary Sardar Fida Hussain.

The organisers of the seminar issued a joint communiqué at the end of the seminar. The communiqué said that Gilgit-Baltistan and Hazara division were used as passage for CPEC and the nationalist parties were totally against it unless people of entire Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were benefited from its incentives. It stated that CPE C was a fate changer plan and if fate of Gilgit-Baltistan, Hazara and other parts of the province was not changed then the people of those areas would never own that multi-dollar project.

The communiqué said that federal government had promised at an all-party conference on May 28, 2015 to complete work on western route first but it failed to fulfil its commitment.

It said that all details about the budget and route plan of the project should be made public by uploading the same on CPEC website and representation should be given to all provinces in the joint coordination committee (JCC) made for this mega project.

The participants of the seminar demanded formation of a corridor authority for supervision of the plan with provision of due representation to all provinces. They said that CPEC was a national level development project but government`s irresponsible attitude made it a security threat and a point of hatred. `We condemn government`s irresponsible attitude, the communiqué said.

It asked government to take people of relevant areas onboard before imposing Section 4 for acquiring land for the corridor.

The organisers of the seminar said that they would make efforts to bring all political parties on one platform to raise voice against injustices with the people of smaller provinces, Hazara division and Northern Areas.
