`Cases against anti-spur people to be quashed`

By Our Correspondent 2016-06-13
MUZAFFARGARH:PunjabMinister for Social Welfare Haroon Sultan Bokhari has said that all FIRs registered in connection with the protest against proposed construction of a spur near Shehr Sultan will be quashed and the arrested will be released.

The minister along with District Coordination Officer Hafiz Shoukat Ali visited the area on Sunday and met with the people who will be affected by the construction of the `controversial` spur.

Mr Bokhari said spur would be constructed at some non-controver-sial place.

Last week, Muzaffargarh police allegedly tortured some villagers and registered cases against those who resisted the irrigation department contractors.

The protesters were of the view that their lands would be hit by the high waters of the Chenab.

Sources said 200 people had been booked in four FIRs. Of them, 50 were nominated.

Irrigation Executive Engineer Mr Zahid said the spur would be built at the same place as the department was not informed about any change in the site.

`If the minister wants to change the site, it can be done.
