Education commission proposed to reform semmaries

ISLAMABAD: The Minister for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony Sardar Muhammad Yousaf Wednesday said that his ministry had proposed constitution of an `Islamic Education Commission`.

`This will improve educational system in seminaries,` he said while speaking at Nida-i-Pakistan Conference, organised by the Pakistan Ulema Coumcil (PUC).

He said legislation would be introduced to ban hate materialand speeches,he added.

The conference was attended by a large number of Christians and Hindus.

The minister said as the government was unable to discourage misuse of blasphemy law the Ulema and clerics should play their role in this regard.

`It is the need of the hour to arrange interfaith dialogue between followers and believers of all religions and religious sects to purge Pakistani society of all sorts of prejudices, hatred and social evils,` he said.

The minister said that Islam clearly stood for the protection of humanl(ind and termed the killing of a single individual as killing of the entire mankind.

He highlighted the efforts made by the government to curb religious extremism in the country and said the government was committed to ensuring honour for holy places and sanctities ofallreligions.

Chairman PUC Hafiz Mohammad Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi underlined that Pakistan came into being with coordinated efforts of the people of different religions and schools of thought and stability and security of Pakistan could only be ensured and strengthened with mutual unity and harmony of all the segments of society.

`We need to promote interfaith dialogue, religious tolerance and elimination of sectarian violence,` Hafiz Ashrafi said adding, `Misuse of `Blasphemy Act` is the biggest terrorism, we from the platform of PUC will continue to fight against the misuse of this important law.

He said, `Mostly land mafia is behind the false blasphemy cases, we want the government to take severe action against those who lodge false cases and instigate violence against any accused person.

A number of false cases under the `Blasphemy Act` have been identified in various places mainly in central Punjab by the PUC and action has been taken against the accusers.

The conference was attended by representatives of various diplomatic missions and embassies, MNAs, MPAs amd representatives of different religions and religious sects. The next round of Nida-e-Pakistan Conference will be held in Karachi followed by Gujrat and Toba Tek Singh.
