KARACHI: Medical specialists on Saturday underlined the need for widespread screening for diabetes in the country to check the growing incidence of this metabolic disorder.

Speaking to mark World Diabetes Day organised by the Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT), experts informed the audience that currently there were around 10 million diabetic patients in the country and the figure was projected to rise to over 14 million by 2040.

World Diabetes Day is observed globally since 1991 on Nov 14th.

Organisers at the SIUT said they advanced the day in order to facilitate participation of maximum number of people to avail the screening and advisoryfacilities arranged by them. The facility will continue at the institute for a few more days.

The organisers said the SIUT had made elaborate arrangement to create awareness and educate the public at large by arranging lectures of medical specialists, advisory services for patients beside free screening and testing facilities.-Staff Reporter
