Man burnt to death by `divorced wife`s relatives

JHANG: A man succumbed to his burns after he was set ablaze by unidentified people while he was asleep in his house in Basti Ali Arrain Wali locality in the precincts of Kotwali police station on Wednesday.

Nasir was asleep in his house when around 4am, four unidentified people entered the building, doused him in petrol and set fire. The intruders fled the scene.

The victim was shifted to the district headquarters hospital where he succumbed to his burns.

According to some relatives of the victim, Nasir divorced his wife Khalida two months ago whom he had married about six months back. He was going to remarry on Jan 17.

The mother of Nasir alleged Khalida`s relatives were involved in torching her son to avenge the divorce.

The police were interrogating some suspects but had yet no clue to the culprits.

ROBBERY: Robbers took away cash and valuables worth Rs0.7 million from the house of a land-lord in Chaudhry Colony in city police station limits on Tuesday night.

According to the police, Farhat Shah, a local landlord, was asleep in his house near the General Bus Stand, along with other family members, when some robbers entered the building around midnight.

The robbers, whose exact number or identity could not be ascertained, tied up the family with ropes and took away jewel1ery, mobile phones, cash and other valuables worth Rs0.7 million.

Police had yet to register a case till the filing of this report at 7pm on Wednesday.

In another occurrence, four unidentiñed robbers tried to enter the house of a lawyer, Mehr Muhammad Hayat Bharwana, in Tahir Nursery area of Canal Road, on Tuesday night, but fled the scene when the family raised an alarm. The police gave them a chase.

Later, the robbers abandoned the car they were using near M-4 Motorway near Gojra and took positions in sugarcane fields.
