Congressman Ted Poe`s criticism

2017-03-14
RECENTLY Republican Congressman Ted Poe introduced a bill seeking to declare Pakistan a country that supports terrorism.

The Congressman perceives nuclear Pakistan a threat to his country. He has forgotten Pakistan`s role as a frontline state in the war against terrorism. We are f aced with the worst kind of terrorism. The so-called Islamic State is on the rise and hitting Europe with its terrorist activities.

The Paris attack and the killing of a Russian ambassador in Turkey show that nothing is safe from terrorists.

No one can deny our sacrifices and blame us for ties with any terrorist group.

Our enemies are reeking havoc in Pakistan while the US ignores Indian intervention in our internal af f airs. The Indian lobby is strong in America and funds the campaigns of such Congressmen.

Operation Zarb-i-Azb has made inroads in the North Waziristan tribal area. And now we have successfully launched Operation `Raad-ul-Fasad` to weed out terrorists f rom Punjab and consolidate the gains made by operation Zarb-i-Azb.

While Ted`s accusatory tones do not reflect the reality, it is quite satisfying that Commander of the American Central Command Gen Joseph Votell has categorically said at a briefing to the Centcom Committee that Pakistan had taken action against the Haqqani network group which has helped America in its efforts against terrorism.

General Votell told the Senate Armed Forces Committee that the Indian policy to isolate Pakistan diplomatically was quite harmful and injurious, this may lead to a nuclear war. Also, he said that he had been encouraged after meeting Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa and seeing his resolve to eliminate terrorism.
