Water shortage

2017-03-14
SOME time back water supply in Karachi was not a problem. It is for the last four months that the water shortage in Karachi has become acute because of the greed of the staf f and of ficers of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB).

Karachi gets 550 million gallons of water a day, while the demand is stated to be 1,100 million metres. A major portion of 550 million gallons is `sold` to water tankers and commercial highrise buildings. The KWSB staf f and of ficers make money through this illegal sale of water.

There are many illegal water hydrants in the city, operated under KWSB tutelage.

Thus a major portion of water is siphoned away illegally. While the locality where I live has no water for the last three weeks, there is always water for tankers, 24 hours a day, every day. Can anyone explain this? With the coming summer the water shortage will assume alarming proportions, leading to major strikes and disruptions.
