MULTAN: Scores of students of architecture and building department of Bahauddin Zakariya University`s Engineering College on Monday protested against what they said non-verification of their degrees.

The protesters closed the entrance and exit gates of the university and chanted slogans against the university administration and Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC).

They said the students were neither able to get admission to MSc Engineering nor they were getting employment due to the non-verification of their degrees.

They demanded that the PEC grant accreditation to their department so that their degrees could be verified.

Registrar Malik Munir Husain said the PEC had directed the university to fulfill the criteria by hiring the required number of faculty members.

He said three faculty members were hired through a selection board by the university administration but later the court issued a stay order on the complaint of a candidate. He said an Intra Court Appeal had been filed with the Lahore High Court by the university to get the stay vacated.

PROTEST: Residents of Budhla Sant protested against a PML-N parliamentarian for allegedly supporting suspects involved in kidnapping a boy.

Sikandar Ali along his other family members and relatives blocked Nawan Shaher Chowk and chanted slogans against MNA Abdul Ghaffar Dogar and police.

The protesters alleged that 13-year-old Sajeel had been kidnapped some seven months ago and an FIR was lodged with the Budhla Sant police.

They said police allegedly released the suspects after arresting them.

They alleged that the boy was not being recovered as MNA Dogar was backing the suspects.

Denying the allegations, Mr Dogar said he did not even know about the incident. `If police are not arresting the suspects, they should protest against the city police officer and RPO instead of protesting against him.

He said he had nothing to do with the case and even didn`t know the complainant.
