Emulating Dubai

2017-04-14
ALTHOUGH Dubai has the cash to purchase oil to run its power plants, it also has the foresight and environmental sense to go for green renewable energy rather than burning fossil fuels.

Dubai has just completed a 200 megawatt solar power plant in the desert and intends to generate 1,000 megawatts by 2020. The cost of electricity thus generated is only 5.6 US cents per unit, which is a fraction of what we are paying the IPPs for generating electricity from oil and gas.

Pakistanhasvastpotentialtogenerate electricity from the sun, wind and water.

We should shift our focus to renewable energy instead of burning imported oil and scarce gas.

Loadshedding will only end and our industry will run efficiently only when cheap renewable energy is available.
