Teachers get relief from KP governor

2015-05-14
PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Sardar Mahtab Ahmad Khan heard the appeals of two teachers of different universities, facing action for their unauthorised long study leave, and decided the cases in their favour.

The governor took decisions on the two appeals submitted by Dr Wajahat Nazif, a lecturer at Agricultural University, and Dr Roohul Amin, a lecturer at Khyber Medical University, said a statement issued on Wednesday.

It said that Mr Wajahat had applied for ex-Pakistan leave to undertake PhD studies in 2005, under HEC overseas scholarship at University of Nottingham, UK. His leave was extended from time to time and at the end he produced MPhil degree instead of PhD. He remained absent from his duty for long duration.

However, he decided that priority should be given to his service, qualification and experience for his future employment in public sector.

The statement said that the other appellant Roohul Amin was granted leave for training initially for a period of one year.

However, he failed to submit requisite progress reports and surety bonds to his parent university within stipulated period.

Hence, his leave was not extended. Due to long unauthorised absence, the university syndicate removed him from service on April 11, 2013. The teacher filed appeal to the governor against the syndicate`s decision whereupon he was afforded with opportunity of personal hearing.

After listening to the arguments of all the parities, the governor modified the decision of syndicate and ordered his reinstatement in service subject to submission of satisfactory progress reports and requisite surety bonds as per requirements of the university.

The governor clarified that appellant would not be entitled to consequential benefits including salaries, allowances and seniority during the intervening period.-Bureau Report
