Multinational firm offers internships to 160 students

ISLAMABAD: A leading communication technology company offered 160 students across Pakistan a three-month internship.

The students were selected from leading universities of the country by a team from the company Huawei.

Higher Education Commission (HEC) Chairman Dr Mukhtar Ahmed hailed Huawei`s initiative and urged other leading national and multinational companies to provide maximum chances to educated young people.

He said the HEC is already working with Haier, Microsoft and other national and multinational companies for jobs and internship opportunities for Pakistani students.

`Last year, we picked 25 interns, of whom 22 were later offered jobs,` said Programme Manager at Huawei Rehan Tariq.

Mr Tariq said that this year too, a large number of students would be offered jobs, based on their performance.

He said that 115 graduates had joined Huawei offices in Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad for a three-month internship programme, while after Eid, 45 more students from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will join the company.

`On the basis of their performance over three months, the best interns will be offered jobs,` he said.

`We want to bring academia and corporate sector together to provide cutting edge solutions to the industry,` he said.

Spealcing to interns, who recently joined the company`s office in Islamabad, Huawei Pakistan`s Chief Operating Officer (CEO) Aragon Meng said: `The internship at Huawei is a great opportunity for you to learn and enhance your knowledge with its practical implementation.` A Reporter
