Fata students demand release of scholarships

2015-09-14
PESHAWAR: Students belonging to various tribal regions have expressed concern over the delay in disbursement of scholarships and urged the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governor to take personal interest in release of funds and increase the admission quota for them.

The students` representatives, including Wisal Ahmed, Abbas Dawar, Rafiullah and others, told media persons here on Sunday that scholarships had not been paid to the Fata students for past many months.

They said that most of the students belonged to poor families and they could not afford the educational expenses. They said that the scholarship was the only source for them to continue their studies.

They also demanded increase in the scholarship amount, saying that prices of books had increased manifold. They said that they would not demand scholarships in future if the government provided free of cost education to the tribal students.

The students also demanded increase in the admission quota for Fata students in the educational institutions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as most of the schools and colleges in tribal regions were either closed or damaged due to militancy.

They urged the government to give admission on merit to all the students irrespective of the areas so that maximum of the tribal students could compete in the process and get admission.

They complained that in some colleges, including technical colleges of Peshawar, the students of Fata and Provincially Administered Tribal Areas were not given admission in the morning shift and they had to take admission in second shift in a state of compulsion.Bureau Report
