LAKKI MARWAT: The students of government higher secondary school Abakhel here on Tuesday held a protest demonstration against shortage of teachers.

The students gathered on Lakki-Tajazai road near district headquarters hospital to lodge their protest against the shortage of teachers in their school.

Later they went to district headquarters complex Tajazai which houses the offices of district nazim, district naib nazim and government departments.

The protesting students told journalists that the only higher secondary school of Abakhel union council had been shortage of subject specialists for the last couple of years.

`The post of principal has also been vacant for the last two years,` they said. They said that shortage of subject specialists was adversely affecting their studies.

The protesting students, accompanied by district councillor Irfanullah Khan, met district nazim Ishfaq Ahmad Khan Meenakhel and official education department and apprised them of the matter.

The officials assured the protestersthatparentteacher council would arrange two teachers for the school on temporary basis till posting of subject specialists.

The district nazim said that he would take up the matter with high-ups of provincial government and fill the vacant posts.

RICKSHAWS: The excise and taxation police impounded more than 24 unregistered auto-rickshaws during a special drive here on Tuesday.

The drive was launched on expiry of the deadline set for registration of the threewheeler.

Local excise and taxation officer Tahir Mehsud told journalists that two separate teams impounded 25 unregistered rickshaws during the daylong campaign.

`The department had requested the local elders to convince the owners of rickshaws to get their vehicles registered within three days but to no avail,` he said.

He said that over 1,000 unregistered auto-rickshaws, plying on roads in the district, posed threat to law and order situation.

`Such unregistered vehicles are also causing a loss to national exchequer,` Mr Mehsud added. Correspondent
