`ICCI ready to help resolve tax issues`

By Our Staff Reporter 2016-10-14
ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Chambers of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) on Thursday offered its platform to the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), for an amicable solution to tax issues with the concerned businesses.

`We advise the FBR to adopt friendly approaches to bring potential taxpayers into the tax net, and avoid coercive tactics that would be counterproductive to tax collection,` Khalid Iqbal Malik, the president of the ICCI, said.

He said that if the FBR has any genuine case against a business enterprise related to alleged tax evasion, the board should first approach the local trade body to settle the matter amicably.

Mr Malik said the FBR`s announcement seeking out of court settlement over tax-related court cases that have been pending in various courts was a welcoming sign, but the FBR should prove its intentions.

`The FBR should also avoid conducting raids on business premises, as it was creating harassment in the business community, if the wise move to improve the tax revenue of the country has to be implemented,` he said.

Mr Malik was talking to a delegation of the Pakistan Chemists and Druggists Association Punjab, which visited the ICCI led by its chairman, Zahid Bakhtawari.
