Students protest shortage of teachers

KARAK: The students of Degree College Banda Daud Shah staged a meeting here on Thursday to protest shortage ofteachersandlack ofotherfacilities atthe college.

The meeting, presided over by Raza Khan Khattak, was told that posts of science teachers were vacant at the college since long and students were facing problems owing to absence of teachers.

The protesting students said that the authorities concerned didn`t accept their genuine demand. They said that they had to bring water in bottles from their homes as there was acute shortage of potable water in the college. They demanded provision of a bus to the college and said that the road leading to the college needed repair.

The protesters also demanded construction of a playground for the students, saying there was a lot of talent in the students of the college to get berth in the national teams of various games. They alleged that elected representatives of the district didn`t bother to visit the college to get firsthand information about the problems being faced by students.

OIL PLANT: The people of Gurguri have threatened to stage protest against the proposed shifting of the oil and gas plant from the area.

The demand was made in a meeting of the elders of the areahere onThursday.

The participants of the meeting said that the oil and gas exploration company `MOL` had decided to shift the oil and gas plant from Gurguri to Makori area. They said that work on shif ting of the plant was also initiated.

They said that oil and gas exploration activities affected the local people. In such a situation, shifting of the plant would be unjust as it was beneficial for the local people.

The elders said thatlocalpeople extendedfullsupport to the company and created very friendly environment for it in carrying out the exploration activities in the area smoothly.

They said that the production bonus funds should be spent on the development of Guguri as the area was affected oil and gas exploration activities.

The participants of the meeting said that the company didn`t fulfil the promises, made with the local people during their agitation against the company some time ago. They said that the promises should be fulfilled in letter and spirit without any further delay. They said that local people would resist shifting of the plant from the area. They demanded of the company to revise its decision.
