Kaira says moving SC on Panamagate was Imran`s blunder

Dawn Report 2016-12-14
SUKKUR: Pakistan People`s Party (PPP) southern Punjab president Qamar Zaman Kaira, who is also a former federal information minister, has said that Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan has committed a blunder by going to the court on Panama Papers issue.

Speaking to reporters at the residence of Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Syed Khurshid Ahmed Shah here on Tuesday, he said it was matter of concern that the National Action Plan (NAP) had been implemented in Sindh but not in Punjab.

Mr Kaira criticised Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan for his handling of affairs, and said he [the minister] had done nothing so far except for issuing threats. He said Mr Khan used to get red warrants issued against certain people but could he explain why he did not do this when [former president General Pervez] Musharraf managed to go abroad.

The PPP leader said that the PTl chief should revisit his previous decisions with regard to challenging Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his family over the Panama Papers leaks issue. He [PTl chief] should review the PTl strategy and consult his lawyers, he said, adding that Mr Khan should also try to understand the stance of the PPP on the matter.

Mr Kaira said banned outfits had been even contesting elections by dodging the national institutions because the National Action Plan could not be implemented in Punjab.

Regarding PPP`s own political strategy, Mr Kaira said `We may launch a movement against the government if the four demands presented to the PML-N are not accepted by Dec 27. Once we decided to take to the streets, we will certainly take all other [opposition] parties on board.

He said whenever the PPP came to the power, it took other parties along.

In reply to a question, he said the PPP had not lost ground in Punjab but it was not wrong to say that it was facing a difficult time there. `We will be able to get through soon,` he confidently said.

The PPP leader said that some of the key suspects in the Benazir Bhutto assassination case had been arrested but the court proceedings appeared slow.

LARKANA: Members of Larkana PPP general body and former office-bearers held a meeting in Garhi Khuda Bakhsh Bhutto on Tuesday to review the arrangements made for the 9th death anniversary of Benazir Bhutto being observed on Dec 27.

Former Larkana PPP chief MNA Ayaz Soomro chaired the meeting, where former general secretary Abdul Fatah Bhutto briefed the participants about the programme.

Several committees were formed and assigned various tasks ranging from the setting up of reception camps, ensuring security and distribution of food, besides guiding the people coming from across the country.

It was decided to decorate towns and cities with party flags and banners.

The meeting noted that a huge participation in the event was expected.
