Six arrested in polio worker`s murder case

FAISALABAD: District police claim to have arrested six people in connection with the murder of polio worker Muhammad Sarfraz.

On Dec 9 last, Sarfraz, 48, a teacher at the Government Rehmania High School, was killed by unidentified motorcyclists near Saleemi Chowk in People`s Colony. He was administering polio drops to children along with a lady identified as Sadia when two motorcyclists openedñre andned.

Addressing the press conference on Wednesday, City Police Officer Sohail Habib Tajik said Zeeshan, son of Sarfraz, settled in the USA had married Sabrina, daughter of Faiz Alam. The couple had sour relations and the woman was seeking divorce from her husband.

He said $200,000 dower (haq mehr) had been fixed for Sabrina. He said Alam hailing from Bucheki, had been residing in the US for years.

He said owing to tussle over divorce, Alam hadchalked out an alleged plan with the help of his accomplices Arshad, Binyamin, Waqas alias Cheeta, Shakeel alias Bulandi, Tariq, Junaid alias Javeed, Umer Farooq, Junaid Tariq and Shehzada Zulfiqar to kill Sarfraz.

The CPO said Arshad, Binyamin, Waqas, Tariq, Umer and Junaid had been arrested and during interrogation they revealed the murder plot.

He said the suspects were arrested with the help of a local cell phone number of Alam.

He said efforts were being made to get red warrant for the arrest of Alam and raids under way to nab other suspects.

The CPO said three Klashnikovs, a pistol, a motorycle and Rs100,000 cash were recovered from the suspects.

Meanwhile, a police source said Zeeshan had contracted love marriage with Sabrina in 2011 and went to the US next year with the help of this wedding. Sabrina`s father Alam was not happy with the marriage and he had allegedly been pressurising Zeeshan for divorce.

A cash prize of Rs100,000 has been announced for People`s Colony ASP Ali Waseem Ahmed and his team.
