Centre to resolve expats` issues

GUJRAT: The Punjab government has established an overseas facilitation centre at Jhelum at the district coordination officer office, to help resolve the problems being faced by Pakistanis living abroad speedily and to encourage them to invest in the country.

Such centers will also be established at the district level across Punjab.

Overseas Pakistanis Punjab Commissioner Mohammad Afzal Bhatti inaugurated the centre at the DCO office where he was briefed about its functioning.

Overseas Pakistanis Commission Punjab vice chairman Khalid Shaheen Butt, DCO Zulfiqar Ahmed Ghumman and other officials concerned were also present.

Jhelum has a good num-ber of expats, especially those living in United Kingdom and other European countries who often face problems back home in getting official documents related to identity, property and security.

It is claimed that the centre will help resolve these issues, preferably within 24 hours of lodging an application.

Mr Bhatti said on the occasion that the centre was an initiative by Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif who was taking revolutionary measures to resolve problems of expats so that they feel free to make investments in Punjab.

Earlier, in a briefing the DCO said the centre was initially set up in May 2014 and it had received 106 complaints from overseas Pakistanis till December, out of which as many as 101 had been redressed and the remaining were also being worked out.
