Khatri wins `Premier` competition

KARACHI: The Signature 8th Ranking Scrabble Tournament was held at Beach Luxury Hotel with more than 70 players participating in four divisions on Sunday.

Pakistan No.1 and seven-time national champion Waseem Khatri once againemerged as the best of the best, winning the exclusive `Premier` category comprising the top 10 players in the country including four former national champions.

Former world youth champion Moiz Baig, who briefly toppled Waseem as Pakistan`s No. 1 earlier this year, beat Waseem in the last game but had to be content with the second position on overallspread although he won the same number of matches (seven) as Waseem.

Former national champion Wajid Iqbal stood third with six wins.

Mohammad Suleman, winner of Malta Open and the Gulf championships, making a return to Pakistan after a long absence finished fourth.

Following are the winners in the fourcategories: Premier: 1 Waseem Khatri; 2 Moizullah Baig; 3 Wajid Iqbal.

Masters: 1 Anwar Siddiqui; 2 Fahim Naqvi; 3 Ali Rashid.

Advance: 1 Mirza Waseem Baig; 2 Saim Usmani; 3 Mohammad Talha.

Recreation: 1 Faizan Farooq; 2 Asif Hussain; 3 Suleman Mohiudden.
