Mengal meets Afaq

KARACHl: The chief of his own faction of the Balochistan National Party, Akhtar Mengal, said on Monday that the situation in Balochistan had not changed and was further deteriorating despite a new government in the country.

`One needs to change mindset to bring peace to Balochistan,` he told reporters after meeting Mohajir Qaumi Movement chief Afaq Ahmed at his residence. `For the same purpose, I forwarded a nine-point reforms agenda but unfortunately none of them was followed. One can only dream of peace and stability in the province with the current style of governance and security policy.

The BNP-Mengal chief said that he meeting political leaders to highlight the solution of the problems in Balochistan and other parts of the country through a consensus.

Mr Ahmed, the MQM-H chief, said he was in agreement with Mr Mengal, adding that using force would not benefit any party.

`We need to understand that there is no way to peace through guns,` he said.

`Whether it`s the situation in Fata or Balochistan, we need to review our policy.

The government and all political stakeholders should join hands for a stable and lasting solution of such crises before it`s too late.
