Curriculum conundrum

2014-11-15
APROPOS I.A. Rehman`s article `Curriculum conundrum` (Nov 6). The writer has expressed his concern about making changes in the curricula for the various categories of students. He has little hope for the emergence of a rational outlook as a result of refurbished curriculums. This despondencyis based on the dismal performances displayed by curriculum designers.

As education, after the 18th Amendment, has been transferred to the provinces, it is now only the provincial governments that can bring about improvement in the education system.

The provinces have recently set up a national curriculum council to seek justiHcationforincorporatinglocaland regionalculturesin textbooks.

Curriculum for primary classes must cover traditions, social customs, family values, heritage, culture, etc., to create interest among the children to know about their province.

Insecondary andhighersecondary education, the curriculum needs to be based on modern subjects and knowledge.
