Int`l conference on gender studies starts

LAHORE: A three-day international conference on gender studies under the theme of `Global Gender Perspectives` began here at a local hotel on Monday. Being organised by the Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) in collaboration with the global gender programme of the George Washington University, USA, the conference aims at bringing together the leading academic social scientists, researchers and research scholars to share their experiences and research.

During the three days, more than 100 national and international dele-gates would participate in the conference and over 100 research papers would be presented by the scholars including those from the US, UK, Sweden, Germany, Norway, Zimbabwe and Nepal.

`The connection between gender perspective and society can generate beneñts bothfor the academic field of gender studies and for the society,` said LCWU acting vice chancellor Prof Dr Uzma Quraishi in her opening speech.

Women Institute of Leadership and Learning Director Dr Sarah Shahed and Prof Dr Shaista Khilji of the George Washington University also spoke. Dr David Gow, Dr Jane Henrici, Dr Kelly Pemberton, Dr.

Michael Clark and other foreign del-egates were present.

UVAS: A three-day international workshop on `Devise Strategies to Control Emerging Viral Hemorrhagic Fever in Pakistan` being organised by the Department of Microbiology of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) has started here.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, UVAS Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha said the workshop was a forum for researchers to share their knowledge and experience on control and diagnosis of the emerging issues that had a direct impact on the country`s economy.

Prof Dr Agha Babar Hussain gave a presentation on Crimean Congo haemorrhagic fever (CCH F).
