Adiala jail to have more CCTV cameras

RAWALPINDI: The Punjab home department on Wednesday directed the Adiala jail administration to install close circuit television (CCTV) Cameras in the waiting and meeting rooms of the district jail.

During a surprise visit to Adiala jail, the additional director (operations) at the Punjab Home Department`s Directorate of Monitoring, retired Lt Col Sajjad Nasir Toor reviewed the security arrangements in the jail.

The Adiala jail superintendent, Saeedullah Gondal, deputy superin-tendent Farrukh and other jail officlais were also present on the occasion.

Mr Toor also directed the jail administration to adopt a comprehensive mechanism to search even visiting children as part of security measures.

He also directed the administration to re-verify all the visitors in waiting and meeting sheds besides enhancing security in and around the district jail.

He inspected the security mechanism of entry gate, Smart Verification and Alert System (SVAS), control room, armoury, women and children prisons, kitchen, different barracks,hospital, factory and death cells.

He also interacted with the prisoners and the visitors and listened to their problems.

The visitors informed the additional director that the arrangements made by jail administration for visitors were satisfactory.

Superintendent Adiala Jail Saeed Ullah Gondal said the jail administration thoroughly verifies all the visitors through SVAS.

Mr Toor assured the superintendent jail that government would provide CCTV cameras to jail administration to monitor the movement of visitors in the meeting and waiting sheds.
