Teachers give govt two weeks for their promotion

2017-03-16
PESHAWAR: The All Teachers Coordination Council, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chapter, has warned of launching a province-wide protest campaign if the government failed to accept its demands for award of time-scale promotion, jobs quota for teachers` siblings, and teaching allowances within two weeks.

Speaking at a press conference here on Wednesday, the council`s action committee chairman Mohammad Shad said the government was least bothered to accept their charter of demands, which had created serious unrest among them.

Flanked by the action committee members, Malik Khalid, Islamuddin, Muzamil Khan Tarabi, and coordination council`s KP president Wahab Mansoori, Mr Shad said they had always opted to seek solution to issues by holding negotiations with authorities concerned. But, he said despite assurances, the officials concerned were yet to take practical steps for solution to the teachers` problems.

Mr Shad also expressed opposition to the appointment of teachers through NTS and regularisation of ad hoc teachers. He expressed anger over a decision taken by Independent Monitoring Unit of the provincial education department for considering emergency leave as absent. He asked the of ficials concerned to share the plan of time-scale promotion and other allowances with the council in written form instead of verbal commitments. He warned that if the demands were not accepted till March 27, the teachers would launch protest movement across the province.

Sharing the schedule of the teachers protest with media, action committee member Muzamil Tarabi said the teachers would start a token strike from March 27 to April 10 by wearing black armbands. Bureau Report
