ISLAMABAD: Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of the capital police has busted a robbers` gang and arrested its ringleader, police said here on Wednesday.
They were involved in a robbery at a Chinese national in F-6.
The SIU team while investigation the robbery succeeded in tracing the gang with human and technical support.
As a result the gang leader was arrested af ter his whereabouts was traced in Islamabad, they added.
During interrogation he confessed to committing six robberies in the capital in the area of F-6/1, F-7/1, F-10/3, G-9/3 and H-13, they added.
All the members of the gang are Afghans and they used to come in group from Afghanistan via Torkham border to Islamabad using a rented car, the police said, adding they randomly selected posh sectors and then targeted the house.
After robberies they take all the looted items to Afghanistan, they said.
Police have also recovered weapons buried beneath a bridge of a nullah near Nazimuddin Road and Jinnah Avenue in F-7, they said.
