KHAR/PARACHINAR, Oct 15: The Bajaur Agency political administration on Tuesday freed 17 people detained for minor crimes in the Agency Headquarters Jail here.
The development comes on the occasion of Eidul Azha as the administration wanted the freed outlaws to celebrate the festival with families.
Bajaur Agency Political Agent Abdul Jabbar Shah along with Member of the National Assembly Shahabuddin Khan and senior officials of the administration visited the jail and held a court there.
The jail authorities informed visitors about the prisoners and their crimes.
After brief hearing, the political agent ordered release of 17 prisoners involved in minor crimes so that they could celebrate Eid with families.
Later, visitors went to different barracks and learned about the prisoners` problems.
The political agent said the administration was making every effort to provide prisoners with basic facilities on the premises. He also said the administration had taken many initiatives to make prisoners useful citizens of the society after they were freed.
Also in the day, around 80 people were released from different jails across Kurram Agency.
They all were detained for minor offences in Central Jail, Parachinar and sub jails of Sadda and Alizai on the orders of local Political Agent Riaz Mehsud.
Mr Mehsud heard the cases of those prisoners before ordering their release. He directed the respective jail authorities to immediately free the said prisoners if they aren`t serving jail term in other cases. -Dawn Report
