Teachers to get performance-based cash awards

SWABI: The district government has formulated a policy to give cash awards to public sector schoolteachers of different cadres on their good performance each year, sources in the local government told Dawn here on Saturday.

They said the decision was taken at a meeting chaired by district nazim Ameer Rehman.

They meeting finalised the proposals to determine the criteria for teachers` selection for cash awards.

Leaders of Malgary Ustazan, a teachers` wing of Awami National Party, officials of the education department and local government representatives attended the meeting.

The sources said a committee had been constituted comprising district education officer, principals of different schools, teachers and representatives of the local government for the purpose.

They said the policy was aimed to inspire the teachers to teach the students with devotion, introduce result-oriented reforms in education sector and fulfill requirements of the public sector schools.

Under the policy, 10 teachers of higher secondary schools would be awarded Rs100,000 and high school teachers Rs75,000 each every year. Ten middle school teachers would be awarded Rs50,000 and 10 primary schoolteachers Rs25,000 each, said the sources.

When contacted, the district nazim told Dawn that the policy was aimed to encourage teachers to impart quality education to students, particularly those hailing from the poor segments of society.
