Vintage cars, bikes carnival attract crowd

LAHORE: A large number of fanciers of vintage cars and bikes thronged the Liberty Parking during the third annual auto show here on Sunday.

The show featuring new and vintage vehicles attracted the people from all age groups.

They thoroughly enjoyed a classical collection of vehicles and bikes on display at the automobiles extravaganza.

Right from the morning till evening, people kept pouring in to the venue. They were both excited and amazed to see vehicles and bikes from early 40s and 50s. At least 475 cars and 375 bikes were put on display.

The auto show was organized by Pakwheels in collaboration with the Tourism Development Corporation of Punjab, Punjab Horticulture Authority, the City District Government of Lahore and the City Traffic Police.

The show was inaugurated by TV artiste Fawad Afzal Khan who later took a round of the venue.

Pakwheels director Suneel Sarfraz Munj said: `We are committed to bringing smile on the faces of Lahorites by holding such family festivals`.

The auto show, which has got its space in the cultural calendar of Lahore, has always been a delight to all those who take interest in vintage vehicles and bikes along with contemporary vehicles.

The overwhelming response from the people showed that people wanted to attend such festivals but the law and order situation in the country had squeezed such opportunities, said a TDCP official.

The oldest vintage cars were the 1947 Pullman and the 1953 Angila. Apart from this, many vintage and classical cars were on display in different hues and colours such as Beetle, Velox, Synchro, Camper, Caprice, Pullman, Impala, Austin, New Yorker, Mercedes, Buick, Opel, BMW, Chevrolet and Dodge.

Several vintage bikes were also on display, including the oldest ones like a 1941 WM20, a 1942 3HW, a 1958 B31, Tiger Club, Trophy, Speed Twin, Café Racer, Bullet, Cub, and Commando 850. The traffic congestion was witnessed in and around Liberty Market as many visitors parked their cars along the road.

TDCP Managing Director Habibur Rehman Gillani said the corporation was trying to hold different events to promote tourism in Punjab.

TDCP Vice-Chairman Imran Ahmed Goraya was also present.

A Pakwheels official said that Hamza Shehbaz was supposed to join the event as chief guest, but he could not come for security reason.
