Teacher suspended for `torturing` student

GUJRAT: The district education authority has suspended a primary school teacher for subjecting a student of Class IV to severe torture and also initiated departmental proceedings against him under the Punjab Employees Efficiency, Discipline and Accountability (PEEDA) Act 2006.

Kashif Tahir, the chief executive officer (CEO) ofdistrict education authority, said that Deputy Commissioner (DC) Muhammad Ali Randhawa had received a complaint against teacher Nasir Mehmood of torturing a student at the Government Primary School Chuhr Chak.

The DC had marked the inquiry to a team comprising District Monitoring Officer Waqar Hussain Khan and the education CEO.

He added that duringinitial inquiry by the team at the school, charges against the teacher were proved right and he was immediately suspended besides initiating departmental proceedings against him under the PEEDA Act.

Meanwhile, the education authority has issued a fresh warning to teachers across the district to refrain from torturing students otherwise strict disciplinary action would be taken against them.
