LAHORE: A judicial magistrate on Tuesday extended physical remand of Nespak general manager Sohail Majeed and junior engineer Wasail Iftikhar allegedly involved in committing corruption in Orange Line Metro Train project.

The Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) produced the suspects before the magistrate after expiry of their earlier remand.

The investigating officer stated that the officers were accused of approving integrity test of some pillars of the project and misappropriation in government funds worth Rs25 million in connivance with two of the former contractors. The 10 said funher custody of the suspects was required for recovery of the plundered money.

Counsel for the suspects opposed the ACE allegations and said the case was baseless and fabricated. He said it was Majeed in fact who pointed out substandard construction of the pillars. However, he said, the ACE implicated his clients at the behest of the government.

The magistrate allowed the request of the 10 and extended physical remand of the suspects for two days.
