LAHORE: Schoolteachers on Tuesday held a sit-in outside the Punjab Assembly against `harsh punishments` by the governmentand other issues.

They said if the government did not resolve their issues in a month or so they would stage another sitin on The Mall along with their families after Eid.

Holding banner and placards,the teachers chanted slogans against the government for not accepting their `legitimate` demands. They complained that the government transferred teachers to other divisions on petty issues.

United Teachers Council convener Tariq Mahmood said grade 14, 16 and 17 should be given to PSTs, ESTs and SSTs, respectively.

He said the government had promised to upgrade these scales.

He said the teachers were victimised in the name of dengue, dropout of students and attendance.

TCF: A ceremony of The Citizens Foundation (T CF) alumni success stories was held at the Ali Institute of Education.

A series of events in Lahore, Karachi and Dubai was aimed at celebrating the achievements of its alumni. The foundation has 1,441 school units across the country.

These are imparting education tomore than 200,000 boys and girls in urban slums and rural communities.

`Recognising the power of education to transform lives for the better and to serve as an antidote to most social ills plaguing the society, TCP launched a quest to set up schools and provide quality education for the underserved segment in some of the most neglected rural areas and urban slums of the country. Just over two decades since it operationalised its first few schools in 1995, TCP has now produced alumni who are changing the course of life for themselves and their families and are acting as agents of positive change for their communities,` TCF`s Riaz Kamlani, VP Outcomes, said.

He said it provided holistic education to students imparting knowledge as per the curriculum along with the moral values and positive mindset needed to succeedinlife.
