`O` & `A` level ignored

2017-05-17
THE inability of government schools to provide quality education has given rise to private institutions across the country.

Most middle-class families prefer to send their children to these institutions even though it brings hardship in managing their household expenses. The majority of these institutions offer the matric / intermediate as well as CIES `O`/`A` level curricula. Students who do well are offered `O` level while the others are advised to study the matric curriculum.

Pakistani students have done consistently well over the years in `O` and `A` level exams and secured top positions among the countries of this region as well as the world. But seldom has the government acknowledged the impressive showings of these students. On the contrary all the praise and laurels are showered on matric /intermediate position holders. Indeed they deserve encouragement.

As grandfather of not one but three such bright students, I request the government to honour `O` and `A` level high achievers.

They are also Pakistani citizens and have rights too. They should also be consideredfor laptop schemes and foreign tours at par with public institutions students.

I also request the Senate of Pakistan which is in the process of debating the O` and `A` level exams` equalisation of marks for admission to Pakistani institutions to ensure fair play.
