GUJRAT: University of Gujrat Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Ziaul Qayyum inaugurated a community mental health centre here on Tuesday.

The centre has been set up jointly by the UoG`s psychology department and a non-profit organisation -Decent Welfare Society.

`There is nothing more satisfying and commendable than caring for society in which you live and doing something about others well-being. That`s why we predominantly focus on community welfare through volunteerism in training of our students as part of their character development programme,` Dr Qayyum said after opening the centre.

He underscored the need for supporting such projects and thanked the district administration for supporting community development initiatives taken by the UoG.

Assistant Commissioner Zaheer Chattha pledged district administration`s support for the centre.

Dr Ijaz Bashir stressed the need for strengthening institutions for the benefit of society.

Dr Zakia Bano and Ms Norina Kausar said students and faculty of UoG psychology department were actively involved in various community development programmes. They said the department was successfully running a counseling centre at the varsity.Correspondent
