LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday sought replies from the provincial government and the Punjab Education Foundation (PEF) on a petition challenging constitution of the board of directors (BoD) of the foundation.

Chaudhry Shoaib Saleem advocate challenged the constitution of PEF BoD through a public interest petition pleading that the board had been formed in violation of the court`s direction. He said the court, in its earlier order, had directed the PEF to reconstitute the board in light of the amended act of the foundation within 30 days, however, secretary schools education illegally issued a notification for the appointment of MPA Engineer Qamarul Islam Raja and MNA Rana Muhammad Afzal as members of the BoD in violation of the PEF Act 2004.

The lawyer said the secretary was himself a member of the board thus he could not issue the notification of the appointment of other members. He asked the court to declare the impugned notification void and order reconstitution of the PEF BoD in light of the court`s direction.

After hearing the initial arguments, Justice Muzamil Akhtar Shabbir sought para-wise comments from the government and the PEF by June 13.
