ISLAMABAD: A capital police assistant subinspector (ASI) was arrested for threatening and extorting a man, police said on Thursday.
The victim, Mohammad Aslam, submitted an application with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) alleging that an ASI had implicated him in a case and had been asking him for money. Mr Aslam said he was later acquitted by the court in the case.
`The court ordered the police to hand Mr Aslam`s belongings to him for which the ASI also asked him for money,` a police official said.
The victim`s application was forwarded to the police in response to which senior police officers ordered for a case to be registered and for the ASI to be put behind bars. When contacted, Mr Aslam said he was arrested by the ASI, who was posted at the Kohsar police station, who later implicated him in a case in February.
`The case was initially registered against one of my friends and the ASI nominated me as well,` he said. `He then demanded I pay him Rs200,000 which I paid him. I was put in jail and made to face trial, which I did,` he added.
Aslam said he was acquitted in the case in April and that when he went for his belongings, the ASI asked for Rs10,000 for them.
When asked, officials at the Kohsar police station said a case was registered against the ASI and that the accused had been but in jail for further investigation. Staff Reporter
