By A Reporter 2017-06-17
ISLAMABAD: The Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD) on Friday promoted 2,397 teachers working at schools run by the Federal Directorate of Education.

In a notification issued by the CADD ministry, the teachers were promoted from grade 16 to grade 17, under the timescale promotion formula that went into effect on Jan 1 last year.

The promotions were approved this April by a committee of representatives from the establishment and finance divisions and from CADD, but the notification was delayed.

`We are very pleased. We are thankful to CADD Secretary Nargis Ghaloo for her personal efforts to resolve our issue of promotion from grade 16 to 17, Federal Government Teachers Association President Malik Ameer Khan said.

He said in the next phase, promotions from grade 17 to 18 and 18 to 19 would also be carried out under the timescale formula, and demanded that the government fill the around 2,000 vacancies for schoolteachers.

`Our schools are facing a shortage of staff, as 2,000 new teachers are needed.

The government should fill all these posts through a transparent recruitment process in the students` greater interest,` he said.
