FAISA LABAD: The University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) administration has expelled seven students without any proof about the claim that the social media comments have defamed the university administration.

This was claimed at a press conference by office-bearers of the Muttahida Talaba Mohaz. Islami Jamiat Tulaba`s Muhammad Humayun, Muneeb Gujjar of MSF and Hafiz Muhammad Bilal of MSO organised the press talk in front of the university main gate on Friday.

Through different notifications, the university administration hadexpelled seven students -Arbaz Hassan of BSc (hons) Agriculture PBG 6th semester (for one year), Ahsan Safdar and Mubashir Ali Hashmi of Tunnel Farming Diploma (for good), Muhammad Isfandyar Javed of MSc (Hons) agronomy (2nd semester), Zubair Iqbal of MSc (Hons) plant breeding and genetics (2nd semester), Ghulam Jilani of MS management sciences (4th semester) and Umer Bilal of MSc horticulture (2nd semester).

They all were charged with `disrespect of the university through social media, trying to initiate an undesirable/unwanted debate on media and damaging repute and bringing bad name tothe university.

The student union office-bearers said the university administration was inculcating fear among students on the campus. They said the administration should focus on the educational activities rather than penalising the learners.

They said it was a fundamental right of every citizen to raise his or her voice for their rights and demanded that the environment of fear and harassment must be brought to an end.

The speakers demanded that the UAF administration restore the students otherwise they would launch a protest drive. They also appealed to the chief minister to look into the issues plaguing the university.
