Former lawmaker faces NAB inquiry over illegal assets

PESHAWAR: The regional board of the National Accountability Bureau, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has recommended inquiry against former PPP MPA Malik Tehmash Khan over the alleged accumulation of assets beyond known sources of his income.

The recommendation was made to the NAB chairman during a meeting of the regional board here.

NAB KP director general Farooq Naser Awan chaired the meeting, where directors, additional directors, senior legal consultants and relevant officials were in attendance.

According to a news release issued here, the board also recommended inquiry against University of Engineering and Technology Peshawar director (finance and planning) Nek Mohammad and other staff members over the Rs207.5 million alleged embezzlement during the procurement of lab equipment for the university`s Jalozai campus.

The director also faces the charge of embezzling Rs128 million of the Rs852 million funds sanctioned for PhD scholarship.

The board recommended two inquiries tothe NAB headquarters, Islamabad, for conversion into investigation.

One inquiry is against former vice-chancellor of Abdul Wali Khan University Dr Ihsan Ali and some other staff members over the alleged embezzlement of millions of rupees procurement, scholarship and endowment funds, while the other is against managing director of Mian Arifullah Jan and Co Mian Arifullah Jan and others over the alleged misappropriation of funds allocated for the construction of 22-kilometer Barang Road, Bajaur Agency.

The board also recommended three references for the approval of the NAB chairman.

The first reference is against former secretary of the Workers Welfare Board Tariq Awan and other ofñcials over the alleged embezzlement of Rs1.2 billion, second against superintendent and PA to Board of Revenue Peshawar director (land record) Abdul Rahman over the alleged accumulation of Rs93 million assets beyond known sources of his income and third against district accounts ofEcer of Battagram Mohammad Ayaz Qureshi and others over the alleged misuse of authority, fraud and Rs14 million corruption.
